Yes, that most definitely is possible.  The major requirements would
be to port GNU Mach, then the GNU C library (which should be quite
easy, given that it already works on Alpha Linux), then finally the
Hurd libthreads.

I am not a kernel hacker, so I won't claim that it's ``easy'', but I
do know that it should be made easier because of all the other free
kernels that have been ported to the Alpha.

If you have serious interest in attempting a new port, please declare
your intentions to bug-hurd@gnu.org, so that the Hurd and GNU Mach
people know what you're doing.
