Re: [aurelien@aurel32.net: Re: hppa unstable buildd]
Hi Matthias,
Thanks for forwarding this message. I didn't receive it since
lafayette was dead when the reply was sent.
I originally wrote my inquiry to ftpmaster@debian-ports.org on June
18, 2012. I believe that I also wrote
an earlier inquiry in March 2012.
Carlos pushed hard to try try to satisfy the requirements for moving
hppa ports. The last message
that I see on this subject was sent by Carlos to Aurelien regarding ftpmaster@debian-ports.org
. It was
copied to myself, Domenico Andreoli, ftpmaster@debian-ports.org and
HPPA porters on August 9, 2011.
In a general sense what happened after that is I submitted Carlos'
glibc fixes and Aurelien added them
to the glibc patch list. In the summer of 2011, I succeeded in
migrating to unstable and started building
hppa packages. Then, I setup lafayette with the help of Thibaut to
become a new buildd. Unfortunately,
it failed in August 2012.
Since this started, we have have fixed many tool chain bugs, glibc now
works reasonably well and kernel
stability is significantly improved. Things will never be perfect but
unstable as it stands is perfectly usable
on most hppa hardware.
We may need to start over regarding Aurelien's requirements as a lot
of time has elapsed. It's really unclear
what still remains to be submitted.
In my mind, the goal is simply to maintain as large a collection of
current unstable packages as possible so
users can benefit from new features, security updates, etc.
Helge has setup a package upload system to parisc-linux.org. To
access the debian hppa packages
that we have, one just has to add the following to /etc/apt/
sources.list:
deb ftp://ftp.de.debian.org/debian-ports unstable main
deb ftp://ftp.parisc-linux.org/debian-ports/unstable unstable main
Regards,
Dave

Here is the latest mail about hppa on debian-ports.org. As far as I
know
I still haven't received the information that would allow me to do the
setup on the debian-ports side.
I don't consider myself as an HPPA porter, so I am not planning to do
the coordination of the HPPA porters.
