Re: Installing Debian-hppa on HP c8000
CD Boot process hangs with quite famous message:
console handover: boot [ttyB0] -> real [tty0]
I'm using d-sub monitor, not a serial console (problem with serial
console was discussed already). My questions are as follows .
--- Is it possible to install debian from boot cd using d-sub or DVI
monitor? (c8000 has IDE cd-rom)
--- Can I use serial console with standard c8000 serial port? (answer
is 'no', I suppose)
--- Is it possible to use net boot? (Some hits are welcome. I boots
only i386 via network.)
--- How to change kernel line when booting from cd or net (stupid
question, i'm sorry)
I even bought some tg3 netcard but have not installled it yet.
Dear Krishchenko,
I did the following and it covers all your points:
- Have a NIC (done), a serial PCI card, and possibly a USB cd/dvdrom
ready. Plug in all. Boot your distro in the built-in drive. Before ttyb0
failure you will see a line ttys0 and 1 popping up. have your serial cable
connected to the pci card and continue from putty serial on another box.
when the install tells u that it cannot find the cd or dvd (kernel does
not support it), take it out and place it in the usb drive. search for
available media again and will continue just fine. after finish boot from
P1 or 2 (hdd) and interact with IPL (y) in parameters edit to ttys0 and
you are ready to go. (install ssh and config network, ssh-x works for me
quite ok) read back this list. Built-in NIC, serial and all shipped GPU's
are not working under linux; actually many graph cards are perfectly
detected by boot/ws (sometimes very nice dense fb console) but none are
usable in lnx due to some mmio troubles sigh. 1-2 old above mentioned
cards work but we are missing big potential on that agp bus.
