The following is the compiler invocation that configure.CheckHeader() uses when looking for jni.h.

-DLINUX -DPIPES -DUSE_DOUBLE -DHAVE_SOCKETS

-I/usr/include/lua5.1 -I/usr/include/tcl -I/usr/include/tcl8.4
-I/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/include -I/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/include
-I/usr/local/include -I/usr/include -I/usr/include
-I/usr/X11R6/include .sconf_temp/conftest_26.cpp

unrelated: including both -I/usr/lib/jvm/default-java/include -I/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/include looks suspicious.

Just for the record: We included both to support Etch backports which do not have the default-java packages. We considered it superfluous but harmless for newer builds with that extra include line.

Etch is old now, so I have dropped support for Etch backports and simplified the config.py file anyway.

@Felipe: You may disagree with me on that change - but probably we should then discuss that outside of these other lists :-)
