boot hang by sym0 parity checking

hey all. I just installed PA Linux 3.1r1 on a HP B1000 and by booting the system hangs at the following point.

initrd-tools: 0.1.81.1
NET: Registered protocol family 1
sym0: <896> rev 0x4 at pci 0000:00:0f.0 irq 65
sym0: No NVRAM, ID 7, Fast-40, SE, parity checking

there are no errors prior to this hang and everything looks good. Am still searching for possible clues as to what is happening.  Any help would be appreciated.
