No, any of the 2.4.22 kernels should be fine.  It's safe to say at this
point that I don't know what's going on ;-)

This is all fine (You don't actually need the GSP/ECI/MP option selected,
but having it selected does no harm.)

Could you send me your whole dmesg?  I'm particularly interested in the
device listing near the start, but sending the whole thing would be good.
