735/99 crashes

Hello,
I am using Debian Woody with kernel 2.4.18-pa26 on a HP 735/99. My
problem is, that the machine crashes a lot and I am not sure why. I
once had an uptime of more than 50 days so I guess the hardware itself
is alright.
It seems like the crashes happen quite often after cron.daily was
run. Then the last message in the logs is that syslogd did a restart
and then nothing till the reboot.
Is the GNU/Linux-port to HPPA considered stable or are crashes more
likely than on other platforms? I sometimes read that one should use
Sid instead of Woody for this platform. Would this help or make it
even more unstable?
Any hints are welcome. Regards,
Phil
