Indeed, as suggested by Peter, I've tried with a "regular" user (my previous user was authentified against an AD domain with samba/winbind)
and it works.

It seems that this issue has been closed with latest charliecloud.
Would it be possible to upgrade charliecloud to 0.15?

However we may face on other problem with this version since user+mount feature is not available
see https://github.com/hpc/charliecloud/issues/638

when building charliecloud within a chroot env. Obviously this is the case when building package with pbuilder/cowbuilder?
How can we work around this?
