other commonly used suffixes are +repack or +dfsg (for removal of
non-dfsg bits), optionally followed by a number (if you repack the same
tarball repeatedly). I'd prefer a ~suffix instead of +suffix, since it
sorts slightly before (and not after) the pristine upstream version
(i.e. "upgrading" to pristine upstream is still possible).

Repacking to *only* remove debian/* should not be neccessary with a
format 3.0 (quilt) package.

Format: 3.0 (quilt)
[...]
       Extracting
       [...] The debian tarball is extracted on top of the source
directory after prior removal of any pre-existing debian directory. [...]

And git-buildpackage should handle this properly as well.

So don't repack unless you have a good reason for it.
