You originally reported an issue of "$ in nroff table causes spurious 
TeX-related failure".

John pointed out (among other things) that (at least never releases) 
supports telling pandoc explicitly to parse as man page.

I have trouble understanding what you are saying above: Do you argue 
that when explicitly telling pandoc to use man, you get the issue that 
you originally reported?

Seems to me you have a different issue on being unable to parse as man.
