In some cases we have slightly newer versions because other programs or
libraries in Debian require it, and we avoid having more than one
version of a package in Debian, unless it cannot be helped.

Hmm, looking at http://people.debian.org/~nomeata/platform.html I only
see that alex is newer (which is not a problem, as it is just a build
tool). The display about parsec is wrong, as there we have two versions
in Debian.

I think it’s ok to not depend on them by default. People with low
bandwidth and/or disk space will thank us. But having a
haskell-platform-prof package (similar to *-doc), which could be
recommended, would be fine.
