I've seen several hams come to Ubuntu as newbies, who then fall back on the wine/Echolink combo (as I did at first). T'would be nice to have Qtel in the Ubuntu (or related) repositories ready to roll. But I know nothing about package maintenance. I'd like to find out what's involved...

The best thing you could do as a user is to send a "RFP", "Request For
Package" to the Debian Bug Tracking System, but this has been done
before. The bug was closed after one year without any action.

Jaime Robles has been saying on this list that he would take a look at
Qtel/EchoLink/EchoLinux/svxlink or whatever it is called. I don't know
what the current status is, his last package intent was from August 2007
so nothing much has happened.

Some of the hams in Debian feel that Qtel has nothing to do with Amateur
Radio, e.g. there is no radio-transmission involved. That's also the
reason for me to not invest time in it.

So Pete... start learning about creating Debian Packages, get yourself a
sponsor for uploading packages or become a Debian Developer yourself.
