Hello Arjan,
Letting the packages depend on a certain kernel would not be very
practical, e.g. there will be users who compile their own kernel and
install that.

Would you be satisfied if we adapt the package description and add a text,
saying something like:

"it is preferred that you run this software with a 2.6 series kernel".

Just for the record. Arjan explained to me that with his current setup,
using kernel 2.6 and recent packages, crashes have gone.
