missing shut down menu item

Hi

in an attempt to get my keyring opened on log in using
libpam-gnome-keyring, i installed the latest gdm and associated deps as
listed below.

capplets-data (1:2.18.1-1) to 1:2.20.1-2
gdm (2.18.4-1) to 2.20.2-1
gnome-control-center (1:2.18.1-1) to 1:2.20.1-2
gnome-session (2.18.3-1) to 2.20.2-1
libgnome-window-settings1 (1:2.18.1-1) to 1:2.20.1-2
libpanel-applet2-0 (2.18.3-2) to 2.20.2-2

the shut down menu item under system has disappeared. i have no idea
what happened here except that i believe gdm itself to be the culprit.

on a similarly configured machine i installed all of the above *except*
gdm and all was well (logged out then in, restarted x and also
rebooted). i then installed gdm 2.20.1-2 and the shut down menu was
gone.

i tried to compare the contents of the 2.18 and 2.20 but nothing jumped
out.

any suggestions on how to get back the shut down menu item would be
appreciated.

thanks
Takis
