Thanks for the info.  Time to purge gdm from my systems and replace it
with xdm.  From what I read in the bug reports, that will fix the
problem.  I wish Debian would just remove gdm until such a major bug can
be fixed.  At the least, the user should be worned about it when they
install gdm.
