I also like to use the (left) windows key to switch workspaces. I had to
modify /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc/pc to get it working without problems. I
added "<LWIN>" to the "modifier_map Mod4" line (similar to the patch for
the other keys):
modifier_map Mod4 { <SUPR>, <LWIN> };
