Err .. I didn't know that, I was talking about this bug because I
witnessed it with my own eyes under my own debian unstable :)
So the workaround seems sorta inefficient to me ...

Hm, I may be wrong, but I thought gconf-editor 2.6 had fixed this. Ifyou can replicate there is a bug in bugzilla about it.
