As has been noted by someone in #240804 (*), it seems that the current gThumb package in unstable, does not work with GNOME 2.6 from experimental.
The submitter of this bug did some more testing. He found that gthumb did not work without the "shared-mime-info" package being installed on his system.
Can somebody confirm this (i.e., do people who got gthumb work without problems, indeed have this package installed?)
If this is the case: I'm not sure whether gthumb should depend on it, or that one/some of the GNOME packages should?
