I can run the machine as root, it is a single user laptop, but REALLY don't like the crap I can do to myself accidentlly ("don't take the name root in vain").When I login as root, I get the sounds as expected. When I login as normal user, and open the volume control applet, it complains that a device is missing.Obviously a simple, subtle, thing is hosing me here.
