GMC Rubberband in X Root Window

Dont know if this is an upstream issue, and dont know if this
is related to GMC, iceWM or GNOME in general but:

Spawning a rubberband on the X root window (for selecting 
several icons at once) leaves the root window in a mess of
not properly undrawn boxes. At least for me (using icewm)
