Istr the theme engines are not explicitly linked against libgtk, libgdk etc. (actually I thouigh it was imlib, but...). This seems to cause problems when they're dlopen()ed- the fix was to recompile the engines with the extra libraries on the link command line. I could easily be wrong (again), though.
