Bug#727658: libc6: Upgrade from squeeze to wheezy causes ethernet to fail

Each time I try to upgrade my system from squeeze to wheezy the ethernet fails to connect to anything. I know the hardware works because it works just fine in squeeze. I have also tried this on several different Ubuntu distros with the same results which lead me to believe that this was a kernel issue. After upgrading, the ethernet port receives power but is unable to send or recieve data. Having done multiple reinstalls, upgrades, and partial upgrades I noticed that the ethernet seems to fail after upgrading libc6 to 2.13-38. I realize this is not terribly useful because upgrading libc6 requires and upgrade of quite a few packages so I'm not 100% sure that libc6 is causing the issue, but I don't think it is realtek drivers (r8169). I have tried many different kernel modules for r8168/9 and they always work on squeeze but never on wheezy. Since not having an internet connection severly hiders my ability to use the reportbug tool, I have to run it from a separate squeeze
install. Thus all the info sent via reportbug is on a working install of squeeze, but if needed I can grab the necessary logs and tool outputs from a broken wheezy install and send them on this working one. I'm at my wits end with this issue so any assistance that can be provided would be much appreciated.
