Bug#699061: Please ignore leading whitespace on lines in resolv.conf

Package: libc6
Version: 2.13-38
Severity: wishlist

Currently, if an option in /etc/resolv.conf is preceded by a space then the option is not recognized.

This fact is documented, not entirely explicitly, in resolv.conf(5) which says

The keyword and value must appear on a single line,
and the keyword (e.g., nameserver) must start the line.

It is quite common, however, for configuration syntaxes to allow whitespace at the beginnings of lines (which will be ignored).  Here is a case where this gave someone some trouble.

I request that leading whitespace on lines in resolv.conf be ignored.
