Since iconv is a wonderfull conversion tool, I like to see "iconv" converting PDU strings with the right character encoding. :-) Resources how the PDU format is working you can find here: <http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/> including the default characterset used by SMS tools which is realy different from all characterset known to iconv (e.g. "@" is 0x00). Except that PDU is _not_ a charset but an "escaping". It can embeds 8bit or unicode charsets. Iconv is not aimed to do escaping (there is no base64/hexa/... capabilities in iconv). recode is nearer from what you search AFAICT.
