Package: libc6 Version: 2.1.3-17 Severity: normal At the moment getpwnam(3) sets errno to ENOENT whenever the entry is not found. This does not allow the application from distinguishing between a nonexistant user from a genuine error (e.g., the NIS server is down). Therefore, getpwnam(3) should not set errno unless an error did occur during the lookup. Such a behaviour would be consistent with both POSIX and the SuS.
