Package: libc6
Version: 2.1.3-17
Severity: normal

At the moment getpwnam(3) sets errno to ENOENT whenever the entry is
not found. This does not allow the application from distinguishing
between a nonexistant user from a genuine error (e.g., the NIS server
is down). Therefore, getpwnam(3) should not set errno unless an
error did occur during the lookup.

Such a behaviour would be consistent with both POSIX and the SuS. In fact,
strictly speaking, it is required by the SuS.
