What new functionality does libc6-amd64 provide to a non-amd system?

FWIW, adding 7 mb to standard without consulting anyone has a tendancy

 - Important packages falling off of CDs to make room.
 - Stock partitioning schemes no longer being large enough for standard
   installs.
