Package: base
Version: 20021021
Severity: important

For a simple example, run this under zsh:

      % echo $((3%-10))

According to ANSI-C (and common sense), this should be 3. But it results
-3 here. Using a simple perl script will get the same result.

I found this while I tried to compile perl 5.8.0 in debian 3.0r1 woody.
The "make test" fails at t/op/int.t test 6 while calculating 3 % -10. I have
seen this in Red Hat 7.3 before, so I knew that this is a problem in glibc.

I have tried the libc6-dev-2.2.5-14.3 in the sarge testing version. The
same problem exists. I haven't tried the unstable version libc6-dev 2.3.1-2,
since I'm building a production environment. But at least I found no fix for
this problem till libc6-dev-2.2.5-14.3.

I have checked the mailing list archives at lists.debian.org for this
problem, but I did not see anyone mentioning this before.

I'm using Debian 3.0r1, on an AMD Athlon 1800+, 256MB RAM, 80GB HD.

These bugs are tagged as woody, because they're well-known problems
and for keeping open to come to light what the problem is. However,
as you know, sarge was released. Our stable version was moved from
woody to sarge. It's high time to close old woody's bugs that are
still open. Now I close these bugs. If you have any objections to
close them, please reopen and let us know your trouble.

Regards,
-- gotom
