OK, I have now submitted a series of bug fixes to glibc which will (if

The last patch in this series fixes Debian bug 177940. It is by far
the largest and trickiest patch, and it depends on some of the earlier
patches, but I saw no easy way to separate out a fix for the Debian
bug that didn't run afoul of some other problems.
