         gettext-doc        0.10.38-4          Documentation for GNU
gettext.

Gettext translation is not working on my machine. This is a 3 week old
install of Potato "Stable" with an upgrade to "Testing".

I am following a recepie out of the HORDE IMP, "how to test gettext".
Quoting that file:

  Does gettext even work?
  Get a string to translate,
  $ strings /bin/tar | grep Memory
  Memory exhausted
  $ (LANG=nl; gettext tar "Memory exhausted" )
  Geheugen uitgeput

My results:
  $ strings /bin/tar | grep memory
  Cannot allocate memory for blocking factor %d
  memory exhausted

  $ (LANG=nl; gettext tar "memory exhausted" )
  memory exhausted

Other results
  $ TEXTDOMAIN=/usr/share/locale ; export TEXTDOMAIN
  $ LANG=de; export LANG
  $ make
  make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

I tried this on my Red Hat and FreeBSD box and it worked. I'll be happy to
supply any other information. I don't know what else to try. Hopefully this
is not a bug, but a simple configuration issue.

This bug should be fixed in glibc 2.3.1.
Use debconf interface. I close this bug.
