Hi running an up to date (as of this writing) version of woody on PowerPC
and x86, I noticed that if I change the default system locale, to
de_DE-ISO-8859-15 (the @Euro one) by calling "dpkg-reconfigure -plow
locales" and then rebooting, X becomes very slow. KDE Menu's appear with a
huge delay and gtk based apps like xcdroast make the font server (xfs) go
wild and use 99% of CPU. xcdroast takes minutes to load and is unsuable.
When starting xcdroast on the command line, it complains about not being
able to find the default font with the correct encoding (ISO-8859-15). I
believe that I have all the necessary xfonts installed. Setting the default
locale back to ISO-8859-1 solves the problem however it is a compromise as
8859-15 should be used as it is aware of the Euro symbol.

Of course, I can provide more information on request.

I think this problem should be fixed. I close this bug.
