actually the upgrade of the libc6 did fail, so I set up a chroot
environment with the new libc6 and tried to hunt down the exception;

the version prior to the 'upgrade' was 2.2.5-14.3, the one from
debian/testing;

and the problem still exists with sid's
kernel-image-2.4.19-r3k-kn02_2.4.19-0.020911.5_mipsel.deb
