Re: Bug#169231: tcl8.4 should be installable on woody without updating libc

Hi Chris (and libc maintainers),

Yes, you are right, I do not understand.
I don't understand why I can't install the Tcl8.4 *official* sid package onto
woody without upgrading libc... I am sorry if that might seem... strange? ;)

(See further below...)

Thanks.
Cheers,

I agree: it is a wishlist item from your (yes, more official than mine) point of
view.

But you are not suggesting me an apt way - your solution would mean me totally
getting out of apt and its advantages (by making my own package).

Ok, then let me ask you the following: what was the reason of the versioned libc
dependency for tcl8.4? (I can accept an 'I don't know' answer for sure ;))
Isn't it exaggerated?

There's a light! :)
Hrm... so talk to the libc maintainer? Ok, thanks, I will try to contact him.
(However, it is strange that a package maintainer does not have that level of
control over his own package...)

Debian libc maintainers, I am sorry for disturbing... I'd need an explanation to
the simple question: why the versioned libc dependency on Tcl8.4?
Would it be possible to adust the libc dependency so that the woody libc would
satisfy the needs of the Tcl8.4 package?

All the best to you all,

Cheers,

Csan
