Bug#172439: locales: Even after running dpkg-reconfigure no locales are generated on woody
Package: locales
Version: 2.2.5-11.2
Severity: important
I see that various woody users have been having trouble generating
locales at apt-get install time, but that running dpkg-reconfigure
solved the problem.
It has not worked for me.
Running 'dpkg-reconfigure locales' allows me to select the list of
locales to be generated, and then prompts me for a default locale
(allowing me to choose amongst the locales I have just selected along
with the usual defaults), but then generates no locales.
/etc/locale.gen continues to contain:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION FOR localeconf
# Do not edit within this region if you want your changes to be preserved
# by debconf. Instead, make changes before the "### BEGIN DEBCONF SECTION
# FOR localeconf" line, and/or after the "### END DEBCONF SECTION FOR
# localeconf" line.
### END DEBCONF SECTION FOR localeconf
----------------------------------------------------------------------
... and in fact the file's MTIME hasn't even been updated (it's still
April 29th, 2002 - more than seven months ago).
I did not see any error messages either, just:
Generating locales...
Generation complete.
