Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.1-1
Severity: important

-- System Information
Debian Release: testing/unstable
Kernel Version: Linux ext-005-l 2.4.18 #1 Fri May 3 17:44:10 BST 2002 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Versions of the packages libc6 depends on:
ii libdb1-compat 2.1.3-7 The Berkeley database routines [glibc 2.0/2.

Hello,

Having upgraded to libc6/libc6-dev 2.3.1-1 WINE stopped working:

/usr/bin/wine.bin: relocation error: /usr/bin/../lib/libntdll.dll.so:
symbol __libc_fork, version GLIBC_2.1.2 not defined in file libc.so.6
with link time reference
Wine failed with return code 127

Downgrading back to libc6/libc6-dev 2.2.5-15 fixes problem.

Reporting the bug to WINE produced the following reply: "user error (bad
glibc upgrade)"

HTH

__libc_fork is libc internal function. So breaking compatibility
is OK through different versions. Wine should be fixed.

We don't think it's bad upgrade :-)
