Yup - I've tested the following cases with libc6-2.3 on i386:
gcc-2.95 building hello world both static and dynamic
g++-2.95 building hello world dynamic.
gcc-3.2 building hello world both static and dynamic
g++-3.2 building hello wolrd dynamic.
