virtualfs support in glibc
Hello,
I recently found the virtualfs package for Linux:
http://www.solucorp.qc.ca/virtualfs/
This package allows very transparent access to local floppies, cd-roms
and other goodies in a networked environment: Linux xterms <-> Linux servers
I believe this kind of setup is used in many large organizations
(at least we do use it :-)
The problem is that it require a small patch to libc (or at least looks pretty
harmless to me :-) but of course I am not an expert.
Currently the developers support RH 6.1 with a patch to glibc-2.1.2 at:
ftp://ftp.solucorp.qc.ca/pub/virtualfs/glibc/redhat-6.1/
Surprisingly virtualfs is very little known (I stumbled on it by accident)
despite the fact that it may be extraordinarily useful.
I think it would be nice if Debian could support it at least at libc level,
maybe with an optional libc package (to install over the normal one)
so this is why I am writing to you. (I.e. I thing it won't be a very big deal
to create a supplemental libc6 package with the patch applied, please excuse
me if I am wrong).
Many thanks for your time. I hope I didn't wasted too much :-)
And of course many thanks to all Debian developers :-)
Cheers,
