Bug#53894: Critical dependancy problem in potato: libc6-dev
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.0.7-6
Hello,
I just want to let you folks know, that I feel that Debian is *the* best
GNU/Linux
around. I really **love** apt-get and it normally works without a hitch,
but I recently
ran into a problem. Any help would greatly appreciated. thanks.
I installed potato ver. 2.2 on my new system. when I try to apt-get
install libc6-dev
it gives me dependency problems because libc6-dev is for an older version of
libc6 (i think).
the error message I get is:
the following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-dev: depends: libc6 (= 2.0.7.19981211-6) but 2.1.2-10 is to be
installed
E: sorry, broken packages
I did dpkg --list libc6 and i get version 2.1.2-10 for libc6.
this is a big problem because I cant compile anything without
libc6-dev and I can't down-grade libc6 because everything depends upon it.
also, many other packages (all X stuff) won't work without libc6-dev. what
should I do? if you could respond with a solution to my problem that would
be great.
Thanks for any advice.
Chris Tilden
PS- if the package needs to be updated will it be soon? :)
