Subject: obsolete version of timezone won't remove
Message-Id: <Pine.OSF.3.96.980604210433.5157C-100000@aurora.alaska.edu>
Mime-Version: 1.0

Package: timezone
Version: 7.48-3

I have the new version (called timezones I think) installed, but I can't
seem to remove the old version (timezones). deselect doesn't complain
when I deselect it, but when I actually try to remove it I get:

dpkg: error processing timezone (--remove):
This is an essential package - it should not be removed.

Any ideas on how to proceed from here? Thanks.
