Package: libc6
Version: 2.0.6-2

One of the issues that I hoped would be solved with glibc is the problem
that libc5 did not cache /etc/group effectively. I have about 1000 entries
in my /etc/group file. If I allow a system to access that group file via NIS
then glibc will do an exhaustive scan involving reading all groups from the
NIS server at each logon or on any occasion where group permissions have to be
checked.

I saw a cache implemented in the sources of libc6 for the /etc/group file. But
it seems that the cache is not effectively used. Is the timeout too short? Is
there some way to set the cache to be refreshed only once and hour or so?
