Usually you run it on the .changes file so that it checks the source
package too.

Whoa. Yeah most of that needs to be split out into a separate -data or
-common package. I personally usually keep the .desktop, .menu and
manual pages in the main package.

Until doc-base is useful to desktop users, such a file it isn't really needed.

Ignore this one, policy really needs to be fixed here.

Run desktop-file-validate from in Debian sid (or newer) on the desktop
file to make sure there are not other problems.

Please use dpkg-source v3 instead of dpatch.

These look like the might be bugs in other packages, either use
as-needed or ignore them.
