HI. I'm an interested person. I maintain two packages which do very
specialised GIS - Cave surveying (Survex and Therion). At some point I
will add Tunnel now that the Java situation makes it practical.

I have been interested in GIS for years, especially open Geodata so
have told everyone I know about openstreetmap, one of whom then mapped
all of Cambridge UK. We have also been doing some low-tech GIS stuff with
integrating cave data with Googlemaps and wikipedia:
http://seagrass.goatchurch.org.uk/~mjg/cgi-bin/map.py

For years I have been wanting to write something that would let people
with tomtom systems semi-automatically collect openstreetmap data but
have failed to get round to it. So far as I know this still hasn't
been done by anyone.

In practice I don't expect to do anything significant in the DebianGIS
team beyond trying to maintain my cave-survey packages, but I am
interested in this stuff, especially in ways that my specialised stuff
can be integrated with the wider whole. I can also put you in touch with
other interrested people who may have more cycles for actually doing
things than I (Julian Todd, Martin Green)
