You are correct that v5 breaks backwards compatibility in a few places.FYI the list of issues is documented in the MIGRATION_GUIDE.TXT included in the root of the source tree. A copy is also available online at http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/development/release_plans/mapserver_5_0/migration_guide_410_50 but that's just a copy that we update every once in a while. The master is really the MIGRATION_GUIDE.TXT in the source package.
