I would start from importing the current tree in the meanwhile. 
A new upstream version is also availablei, as said.

That's a good idea.  I'm just back from field work and travel again
tomorrow for the rest of the week.  I'm getting too busy for some of my
Debian packages.  Team maintainership seems like a good solution.
