[DebianGIS] Fw: Re: [ gpsdrive ] Having trouble compileing the latest CVS version?

fwd from the GpsDrive mailing list. GpsDrive's ./configure currently
checks for the Debian version of GDAL, but it should be generic. Does
anyone have some guidance as to how to have the default be libgdal but
the configure script still work with DebianGIS's version without patching?
AFAICT, many GpsDrive devels are Debian users.

thanks,
Hamish

Problem is; I cannot find a symlink or anything to libgdal in the
current Version. So if I change the linker dependency from libgdal1.3.1
to libgdal it  won't work.

moby:~# ls -l /usr/lib/libgdal*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6836940 2006-06-30 10:57 /usr/lib/libgdal1.3.1.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root    1051 2006-06-30 10:57 /usr/lib/libgdal1.3.1.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      21 2006-07-10 08:25 /usr/lib/libgdal1.3.1.so -> libgdal1.3.1.so.1.9.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      21 2006-07-10 08:25 /usr/lib/libgdal1.3.1.so.1 -> libgdal1.3.1.so.1.9.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4093500 2006-06-30 10:57 /usr/lib/libgdal1.3.1.so.1.9.0

And I think creating a symlink for gdal out of the gpsdrive package is
more than a bad idea.
I already addressed thiss question on the gdal mailinglist yesterday.
Lets see if I get an answer.
