Hi, I'm sending this message again since it seems to have been lost in the ether... I've updated the wiki to show that libgeos2, libgeos-dev, and libgeos-doc have entered unstable. Silke, gdal has a --with-geos configure option although I'm not sure what that provides.
Folks, With GEOS support the OGR geometry classes include a bunch of GEOS based geometry operations. For the time being this doesn't really affect the user utilities, but it can be useful for folks wanting to do specialized operations via the the C++, C or Python APIs. With GEOS available, I think it would be sensible to make it a requireqment for GDAL as well and build it in.
