You might want to look for some work I did about
12 years ago for NeXT's, as part of the MiscKit.
It was all written in ObjC, but it did include code
that handled the nontrivial mapping transforms between
global and UK/Ireland grid coordinates to within about
1 meter accuracy.
The code was called GISKit. Might still be floating
around on the NeXT archive sites.
