I don't think this is a good idea. The triplets are organized to follow the multiarch triplets where possible (the one exception is i386). So unless you want to change the multiarch triplets, this is a no-go.

it would be much better to directly fetch the installation information from GCC, i.e.

  gcc -print-search-dirs
  gcc -print-multiarch
