    ohh ... ok, but 32bit sparc is gone in Debian anyway. If somebody
    wants to revive this architecture, then we probably would have to
    change the triplet as well.

I am lost, why changing the triplets?.

The targets valid for your Debian system (and LoS, and any other v9
based distro) are either sparcv9-* (for 32bit v8+ binaries) or
sparc64-*.  Not sparc-*.
