This sounds like an issue which affected xapian-bindings (not xapian-core)
in 1.0.18-1, but 1.0.19-1 worked around this by compiling with "-g":

I've not seen any indication that this affects xapian-core, and your report
doesn't provide any (apt-xapian-index is written in Python; _xapian.so is
part of python-xapian, and not from src:xapian-core):

So fixing your "affectation" to python-xapian not src:xapian-core.
