FWIW, I performed several archive rebuilds with gcc-4.3 as default on i386 (using a modified gcc-defaults package), and filed all the bugs I found. So this would not result in new FTBFS bugs. I second the request. Not having gcc-4.3 by default on i386 and amd64 make it difficult to debug FTBFS on other arches, when the maintainer doesn't have access to those other arches.
